Joviale

London based multidisciplinary artist Joviale is a creative in every sense of the word. Their otherworldly, immersive alt pop is a genre crossing experience of high vocals and emotional chords. Joviale’s interest in the visual arts and research of different topics is reflected throughout their music in the creation of sound which combines the use of poetry, science and art.

Through their intentional and curious creative process, Joviale’s sound reveals the emotional and physical impact of music on an individual, and how music can contain and reveal the most unusual connections.

One of the most exciting artists of the moment, Joviale’s fresh take on pop is an eclectic mix of electronic and rhythmic beats, and poetic lyrics. In conversation with Stance, Joviale presents the inspirations behind their latest EP Hurricane Belle, stepping into their own sound, and their creative process rooted in the unknown.


Planningtorock by Riinu Rahuoja

Tallinn based electronic musician, producer and director Planningtorock defies the limits of how we are defined as individuals through their emotive, creative sound. A self-taught musician, they’ve used music as a mirror for reflection and growth.

They have channelled memories of queer happiness and love through their sound for more than two decades, and their music features a range of collaborations spanning operas, film scores and remixes.

Most recently Planningtorock created the collaborative EP Planningtochanel for the Parisian label Chanel’s Autumn/Winter 2020 show. Planningtorock has created entrancing, bold dance music which takes the listener on an epic journey.

They talk Stance through music being a force for connection, creating music with family in mind, and the role of music in self exploration and radical expression.


KALLITECHNIS by Lian Benoit

Montreal born Greek Canadian singer, songwriter, dancer and visual artist KALLITECHNHIS’ songs are self described as introspective soul, adding her medley of soulful sounds to the existing genre of R&B. KALLITECHNHIS’ use of dance, graphics and honest  lyrics add to the therapeutic elements of her music.

Discovered online in 2014, KALLITECHNIS has since collaborated with artists from different genres including Kaytranada, Gayance and Lou Phelps.

In conversation with Stance, KALLITECHNIS shares her intentional approach to music, how psychology has shaped her sound, and her latest EP Because it Feels Good.


Summer of Soul

Sundance award winning documentary Summer of Soul is a captivating and moving, part music film, part historical record capturing the monumental events of the Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969. The footage, largely forgotten until now, is an important and vital celebration of  Black joy, history, culture and fashion.

Directed by Grammy, BAFTA and Oscar winner Ahmir “QuestLove” Thompson, the film features concert performances  by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension and more. Summer of Soul shines a light on the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present.
